The Parco dell'Adamello lies in the heart of the alpine
range, the Rhaetian Alps, and includes all the lombardia
side of the Adamello's group, in the northeastern part
of the province of Brescia .
It extends for 51.000 hectares (510 Kmq), from the Tonale
Pass to that of Crocedomini; to east, its territory
ends where Lombardia Region borders Trentino Region;
westwards, its boundary is formed by the upper left
side of the Oglio, the fifth longest italian river.
The Parco dell'Adamello is located on the left riverside
of the Vallecamonica. From Tonale, towards south, the
Park comprises the following towns: Ponte di Legno,
Temù, Vione, Vezza d'Oglio, Incudine, Edolo, Sonico,
Malonno, Berzo Demo, Cedegolo, Cevo, Saviore dell'Adamello,
Paspardo, Cimbergo, Ceto, Braone, Niardo, Breno and
Prestine.
The importance of the Parco dell'Adamello has increased
due to its position, it acts as a bridge between the
two parks with which it borders: to the east the Adamello
Brenta Park (Trento region), to the north the Stelvio
Park (which confines with the Engadina Swiss National
Park).
This way, a protected
area of 250.000 hectares was formed in the heart of
Europe, the biggest in the Alps and one of the most
fascinating. In this area, the Parco dell'Adamello represents
the southern tip.
The Adamello Group, place of the largest glacier in
Italy (a surface of about 18km2 according to current
calculations), offers an aureole conformation, therefore
from the central glaciers of the culminating plateau
start mountainous crests and chains which, in their
turn, are integrated in the subgroups of the Baitone,
Frisozzo and Blumone.
Peaks, crests, mountains dominate the complex of numerous
valleys spread all over the Park, so as to divide the
several chains. Amongst these and going north towards
south, the main valleys are: Narcanello Valley,
Valbione, Avio, Vallaro, Paghéra di Vezza d'Oglio, Finale,
Gallinéra, Rabbia, Malga, Saviore, Salarno, Adamé,
Paghéra di Ceto, Re, Fa, Stabio, Valli, Bona, Cadino
and Càffaro.
Ways
of access to the Park
The
Parco dell'Adamello can be approached from Lombardia
Region, Alto Adige and Trento Region.
By car, the Park can be reached using:
a) the state roads coming from Brescia and Bergamo;
they combine near Darfo Boario Terme in to the only
state road of the Mendola, which is near the western
limits of the Park from Breno till the Tonale;
b) the state road coming from Valtellina to Edolo, through
Aprica;
c) the state roads coming from Bolzano, through the
road of the Mendola, and from Trento, through Cles and
Malé, which reach the Park at Tonale Pass.
In order to know more about the Park's wonders, in all
its amazing naturalistic and environmental aspects,
it's necessary to go on foot excursions inside it. In
the last years, nearly all the natural roads and numerous
paths have been brought into use with appropriate guiding
signs to assist tourists; as for paths (a network of
almost 1000 km), they are capable of satisfying any
type of need, from the simple family excursion along
tracks through the woods, to the thrilling and demanding
alpine ascents at high altitudes, perhaps including
the crossing of the legendary Pian di Neve.
In some areas of the Park, on mountain-bike or on horse,
it's possible to go through some mule-tracks that cross
the mixed forests of conifers and broad-leaves, particularly
along the "Via Valeriana".
Among the paths, one can be easily apprized, that indicating
Number 1 or "Adamello High Trail", long about
50 km, crossing the Park to its extent.
For an excursion in the high mountain territories, it
is useful to be prepared with heavy clothes in case
of unexpected bad weather (heavy boots, woolen pullover,
topographical map and compass).
The
most frequented itineraries are always supported by
C.A.I. and private refuges.
